Building a Dual-Use Technology Ecosystem With NATO
TIME: 17th of March, 11:00 - 11:45LOCATION: ✍️ SEMINARS room 4
SPEAKER: Kadi Silde, Chief of Staff @ NATO DIANA
Gone are the days when new technologies were developed for the military and commercialised afterwards. Today it is the commercial and civilian private sectors driving cutting-edge innovation. Nearly all the technologies that can help us shape a peaceful future are dual-use, with civilian and military applications.
The world is changing, and NATO must evolve and change with it. Technology is growing strategically and may swing the balance in ensuring a peaceful future. One of the reasons that Ukraine has successfully pushed back the Russian invasion is its clever use of new technologies. We have witnessed the critical role of tech companies in supporting Ukraine. These companies have helped the Ukrainians bolster their cyber security and provided high-resolution satellite pictures and internet access. The war in Ukraine has demonstrated that defending our citizens and upholding our values is not only the duty of defence institutions: we all have a role to play in keeping us safe. So what is NATO doing about it?
To maintain its technological edge and leverage the full pool of talent available in all NATO nations, NATO is launching a Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic, or DIANA, this year.
