Startup Estonia is looking for a Marketing Intern!

Startup Estonia is the umbrella organization of the Estonian startup ecosystem. We are representing our startup sector by community building among Estonian startup support organizations, managing the Estonian Startup Database, introducing our startup ecosystem both regionally and worldwide, coordinating the Estonian Startup Visa programme, and much more. All of this is implemented by a highly motivated team and we are looking for a marketing intern to join our forces!

Your days as the Marketing Intern in Startup Estonia will be filled with:

  • Day-to-day management of our social media platforms

  • working on content for our blog

  • producing Startup Estonia's monthly newsletters

  • auditing our social media channels and making suggestions for improvement

  • managing your own innovative marketing project - your chance to shine!

  • coordinating the participation of Startup Estonia at various (online) events

  • assisting with day-to-day activities (we are a team of 9 people who don’t hesitate on jumping in and helping each other).

What we expect from you:

  • higher education (studies can be ongoing), preferably in marketing

  • fluency in written and spoken English (preferably Estonian, as well)

  • basic experience in online marketing

  • a keen interest both in the startup world & marketing

  • commit yourself to us for 3-6 months at least 24 hours/week.

What do we offer:

  • A paid internship while representing one of the most successful startup ecosystems in the world

  • the opportunity to develop your marketing skills using the latest online marketing tools

  • insights into the Estonian startup community

  • regular guidance & flexible working hours (for now, we will start the internship fully remote since all of our team is working remotely).

If that seems like a not-to-miss opportunity for you, send your CV and a motivational letter to sander.sillavee@startupestonia.ee by the 27th of April.

If you’re still hesitant to apply, here’s a short interview we did with our intern Markus Paapsi, who after the internship last summer has stayed in as an active member of our startup ecosystem.

  • Why did you choose Startup Estonia?

I had always felt proud of the narrative that Estonia is this young and ambitious country full of proactive people, who can build ahead-of-the-curve solutions and startups in the competitive 21st century. I was also a second-year university student looking for a marketing internship and I knew that Startup Estonia was going to be an amazing platform to network and gain experiences in the exciting field.

  • What worked well for you in this internship?

My supervisor Sander was an amazing partner and easy to hang out with. We developed our own funny vocabulary, played ping pong to cool off between tasks and challenged each other in our work. A personal connection with co-workers makes working for a mutual goal seamless and enjoyable.

In a way, I felt a lot of freedom. I could work from home or from partnering coworking spaces, in the evening or during weekends, if I so preferred. I really enjoyed the trust that the team put in me in handling responsibilities, making decisions and brainstorming ideas. I felt valued and listened to, which motivates to work hard and deliver desired results.

  • What were some of the projects you have been part of?

Planning, executing, and promoting an entire podcast season with some of the biggest personalities of our ecosystem, producing professional promotional videos that were played on the main stage of Latitude59, creating a professional brandbook alongside UX experts, writing regular newsletters and blog posts for thousands of readers, creating and sharing opportunities for startupers all over the world and seeing them achieve great things. All that is still just scratching the surface - there is a lot that Startup Estonia does and that an intern gets to try!

  • What kind of a person would suit as an intern to Startup Estonia? What kind of skills do you think they should have?

A go-getter. One who makes a start and finds a way, even if one doesn’t know exactly how the goal will be achieved. One who is not afraid to approach an authority for mentorship or collaboration. One who comes up with an idea and creates a plan to achieve it. One who is good with words and gets excited about responsibility. One who is able to use available resources to improve and loves a sense of growth.

Things like being familiar with marketing tools and trends, content creation and design programmes, and strategizing is a bonus. Honestly, I cannot imagine a better place to grow as an aspiring marketer. Don’t miss out!
