Startup Estonia is the umbrella organization of the Estonian startup ecosystem. We are representing our startup sector by community building among Estonian startup support organizations, managing the Estonian Startup Database, introducing our startup ecosystem both regionally and worldwide, coordinating the Estonian Startup Visa programme, and much more. All of this is implemented by a highly motivated team and we are looking for a marketing intern to join our forces!
Your days as the Marketing Intern in Startup Estonia will be filled with:
Day-to-day (co)management of our social media platforms
working on content for our blog and producing Startup Estonia's newsletters
auditing our social media channels and making suggestions for improvement
managing your own innovative marketing project - your chance to shine!
coordinating the participation of Startup Estonia at various (online) events
- assisting with day-to-day activities (we are a team of 9 people who don’t hesitate on jumping in and helping each other).
What we expect from you:
higher education (studies can be ongoing), preferably in marketing
fluency in written and spoken English (preferably Estonian, as well)
basic experience in online marketing
a keen interest both in the startup world & marketing
- commit yourself to us for 3-6 months at least 24 hours/week.

Why did you choose Startup Estonia?
In all honesty, I was more or less in a similar situation as you are right now, dear reader! Having a passion for marketing and looking for an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience, Startup Estonia was the ultimate best place to grow as an aspiring marketer. What motivated me to pursue this opportunity were the internship stories of Markus Paapsi and Christina Kitsa about the fantastic experience they enjoyed being in the heart of the Estonian startup ecosystem. Startup Estonia indeed gives you a unique chance to explore the startup world from the inside out and join their quest to promote Estonia as a startup hotspot, which is a fulfilling and rewarding journey. Long story short, I could not resist having a shot at doing the internship at Startup Estonia! Trust me when I say that this experience will be worth every minute of it, ranging from the startup-minded people that will light the spark in you to meaningful marketing projects you will get to work on to boost local entrepreneurship.
What worked well for you in this internship?
My internship at Startup Estonia was everything I could not even dream of and much more! First and foremost, working with the Startup Estonia team is like being around a supportive and good-natured family, where you feel included and heard. Everyone on the team is a pure source of inspiration and valuable knowledge, and you always know that you can count on all of them for advice and a good time! Sander is a great, caring mentor with a kind heart and a lot of wisdom in store for you, who was a helpful supervisor to me over the course of the internship.
The internship offers a lot of flexibility and lets you truly shine. You will be trusted with responsibilities to run marketing activities, have plenty of room to be innovative, and fulfill your ambition to the fullest. The amazing thing is that you become a part of the Estonian startup community and learn from the movers and shakers who make Estonia an attractive place for startups.
What were some of the projects you have been part of?
Throughout my internship among the coolest game-changers of the Estonian startup ecosystem, I was honored and lucky to:
Put together and launch two editions of the "Symbiosis" pitching event for startups and Estonian startup-focused support organizations
Suggest optimized content strategy and expand the social media presence of Startup Estonia across a variety of channels
Help organize many incredible events for the local startup community and global founders (I even moderated a panel discussion at sTARTUp Day)
Create long-form content for the blog, reporting on the latest achievements and new opportunities available in the startup ecosystem
Curate monthly newsletters that reach thousands of readers around the world
Yet all of this is just a part of what you can get your hands on because Startup Estonia is where lots of ideas are exchanged and come to fruition!
What kind of a person would suit as an intern to Startup Estonia? What kind of skills do you think they should have?
Someone excited! To be a cooperative team player! To try their best to achieve a great result! To innovate and come up with fresh ideas! To gain confidence in a nourishing environment! To assume responsibilities and celebrate challenges! To find guidance and hear advice! To set the first stepping stone for their long-term career dreams.
And as for more technical skills, be ready to deliver excellent copies, navigate social media channels, leverage your knack for compelling content, show your knowledge of design creation as well as actively and timely contribute to the implementation of projects.
