Startup Estonia and Funderbeam have launched an Estonian startup database
Startup Estonia and Funderbeam, an Estonian startup that is developing a startup investments and trading platform, have just launched an Estonian startup database, which serves the purpose of helping local startups attract more foreign investments.
The new database, which can be found on Startup Estonia’s web page, lists over 400 startups with Estonian founders with their basic information, such as a short one line description of the main idea, industry tags, amount of investments raised and the development stage. It is possible to sort the startups based on the different data fields, which makes it an easy and user-friendly tool for finding startups in specific industries and development phases. The information in the database comes from the Funderbeam platform, where information for more than 150 000 startups across the world has been collected and organised.
“We believe that the new database will become an important and supportive tool for the local startup ecosystem, helping to improve the visibility of the startups, especially in the eyes of foreign investors. Multiple Estonian startup success stories have definitely contributed to the rising interest for our startups among foreign investors. As Startup Estonia’s web page is one of the top results in search engines when looking for information on Estonian startups, we get quite a lot of inquiries from foreign investors and accelerators to recommend specific Estonian startups to them. Unfortunately there hasn’t existed a good tool to share this data as we have been collecting it manually and most likely somewhat deficiently,” commented Mari Vavulski, the Head of Startup Estonia, on the importance of the database.
“We are proud to provide data collected by Funderbeam to Startup Estonia to help support the Estonian startup ecosystem and make it more visible in the world. We’ll be happy to help any organisation that supports local startups, as improving the opportunities for startups ultimately benefits us,” added Kaidi Ruusalepp, one of the founders of Funderbeam.
Startup Estonia pre-launched the new database at the Estonia’s biggest tech conference Latitude59 that took place on the 31st of May and 1st of June in Tallinn. The database can be found at http://startupestonia.ee/startups. All Estonian startups are encouraged to add and update their info for the database on their respective profiles on Funderbeam.
Startup Estonia is a governmental initiative aimed to supercharge the Estonian startup ecosystem in order to be the birthplace of many more startup success stories to come, such as Transferwise and GrabCAD have already become. For that, they are making Estonia one of the world's best places to start a company, partnering with and uniting the best of startups, incubators, accelerators, private and public sector into one big successful startup community.
Co-founded by Kaidi Ruusalepp, Villu Arak and Urmas Peiker in 2013, Funderbeam first launched Funderbeam Data, a global data-intelligence subscription service on global startups and investors. In April 2016, the company released Funderbeam Markets, the world’s first primary and secondary market for early-stage startup investments, secured by blockchain technology. To date, Funderbeam has raised €1.75M ($2M), mainly from British and Estonian business angels, and Vienna-based 3TS Capital Partners. The company has 15 employees.
